Interested in Joining the MAC Registry?
The Montalcino Aortic Consortium (MAC) welcomes individuals and families who have been diagnosed with—or are being evaluated for—heritable thoracic aortic disease (HTAD) and who would like to participate in research that helps improve care for future patients.
Because MAC is a scientific research consortium, we must confirm that each participant meets the study’s genetic and clinical criteria. This means that individuals need to have a confirmed genetic variant in one of the HTAD-associated genes before they can be enrolled.
If you are interested, the first step is simple:
Step 1
Email the MAC Team
Please send a message to: MAC@uth.tmc.edu
In your email, include:
- Your name
- Your age (optional)
- A brief description of your diagnosis or medical history (for example: “diagnosed with Marfan syndrome,” “family history of aortic dissection,” “positive genetic test for ___ gene”)
- If possible, provide a de-identified copy of your genetic test results
- Anything you would like to share about your personal or family story
This helps the MAC team understand your situation and determine next steps.
Step 2
We Will Contact You
After reviewing your email, the MAC research team will follow up to:
- Confirm whether your diagnosis fits the study’s inclusion criteria
- Request any genetic testing reports needed to verify eligibility
- Provide instructions for enrolment if you qualify
- Provide instructions and guidance to enroll relatives that qualify to the study
Please note:
MAC cannot provide clinical advice, medical care, or new genetic testing. We rely on the information you share to determine whether participation is possible.
Why Your Participation Matters
By participating in the MAC registry, you help researchers and clinicians learn more about the genes that cause aortic disease. Your contribution supports:
- More accurate diagnosis
- Better long-term care guidelines
- Improved understanding of risks
- Advances that may help future families around the world
Every participant makes a meaningful difference.
