Study Suggests Height-Indexed Aortic Measurements May Improve Risk Assessment in Ascending Aortopathy

A large study of more than 11,000 patients with ascending aortopathy found that indexing aortic size to a patient’s height may better identify individuals at increased risk of adverse outcomes than relying on absolute aortic diameter alone. The findings were particularly notable in women and suggest that some patients who do not currently meet surgical criteria may benefit from earlier evaluation and closer monitoring.
